Problem Faced
A large number of households and establishments in east Ahmedabad are discharging waste water into cesspools that have lost their absorption power. The waste water comprising of sewage and sullage keeps on overflowing on the streets creating serious incinerate condition posing a serious threat to health and environment. There are about 25,000 cesspools which are presently being served by 50 cesspool cleaning tankers. These cesspools are required to be replaced by laying underground drainage lines.

The city area was 98.00 sq.Km.in 1986.

In the February 1986 external area (East) 92 sq. Km. was merged.
In Old City limit 100 % area was covered with underground sewerage system.

East Ahmedabad Sewerage Project: Phase I

25 sq.Km.of the new East Ahmedabad (27% of new area) was covered with new underground sewerage network of 91 Km. length pipeline and 9 S.P. Stations.

East Ahmedabad Sewerage Project Phase II (1999-2001)
19 sq.km.is proposed to be covered (24% of new area) with underground sewerage network of 100 km.length pipe line and 6 new S.P.Stations and one sewage treatment plant.
