The problem with bus travel is figuring out where the buses go since the route maps sold at bus stands are indecipherable. It is best to make as many friends as possible at the bus queue. Somebody will always help. Main bus stops Laldarwaja, Paldi Central Bus Stop. Timings 5.00 a.m. to 00.30 a.m.

General Tips


Tipping:
This is only an indication. In restaurant tips are pooled and shared by all the working staff. Be generous as most people run their lives on tips rather than salaries. When in doubt 10% will do nicely?

Bargaining:
Street stakeholders expect bargaining. In shops when buying in bulks, ask for discount. They should oblige otherwise fixed prices are the convention.

Phones:
Look for STD-ISD-PCO signs. Here you pay as per the computer print out. Equip yourself with a lot of change—(our waterproof currency) !!

Dress:
Skimpily dressed women (no matter now normal by western standards) will be stared at Wear informal loose clothes during the day & you won't feel uncomfortable.

Etiquette:
Amdavadis are informal but in most homes you must take off your shoes before entering. Footwear should never be worn in temples and mosques. A pile of shoes at the door will tell you!

Invitation:
It is fashionable to be late in Ahmedabad. However business dinners & wedding are punctual. Dinner also signals the end of party, so it isn't impolite to eat & run.

Eating Out:
No bars, any booze. So eating is the best thing Amdavadis like to do. We have got some of the best restaurant offering a variety of cuisine's listed for your reference.

Health:
Drink only mineral water or aerated drinks from sealed bottles. Toilet paper not always available so carries a roll.

Baggers:
Instead of giving money, give them edibles like bread, bananas or sweets.

Crime:
Be sensible do not flash wads of notes or leave handbags open.
