The Tribute
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the citizens of Ahmedabad
proposed a memorial at the site of his house in recognition
of his sterling contribution to Gujarati literature and culture.
The memorial comprises the facade of the orginal house,
Tulsi manch and larger than 120kg bronze statue of Kavi
Dalpatram. It is a figure marked for its minutae and life-like
appearence. Every possible details - the intricate Kathiawadi
embroidery on the kurta, the poet's smaller right eye, the
rough texture of showl, the turns of the dakshini pattani
pagadi(headgear), the worn-out leather shoe, the twist of
the right foot, the contemplative look in the eyes, all have
been lovingly and painstakingly crafted by the deft fingers
of the sculptor, Ratilal Kansodaria. The menorial also
servers as an activity area where plays, recitations and
other features linked with Dalpatram are enthusiastically
performed. As a deserving tribute to his greateness.
